This is what it's all about:

We place particular emphasis on providing you with the necessary "tools of the trade" for your academic career. It all starts with the "scientific foundations and methods". We start with mathematics and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration and economics. Don't worry, we will help you master these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them in the world of business. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of data science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from large amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for action for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.

To make your training holistic, we will also train you in the areas of scientific theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and your future career. You will not only be well prepared professionally, but also trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.

Teaching the basics of business administration and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:

BWL I: Accounting & Finance: Here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also part of the program.

BWL II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organization, strategy, marketing, personnel management and digital transformation.

BWL III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control procedures, logistics, operations research and business informatics.

The two basic modules of economics offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at different levels. In microeconomics, you will gain an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You will also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects overall economic welfare. In macroeconomics, on the other hand, you will learn the basics of national accounts. Here you will learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as business cycles and growth are analyzed.

Zivil- und Gesellschaftsrecht (Civil and company law)form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will be familiarized with the legal aspects that are of great importance for companies.

These exciting modules provide you with a comprehensive understanding of economic interrelationships and prepare you to make well-founded decisions in the business world. The knowledge you acquire will help you to master the complex challenges of the business world and become a successful entrepreneur or expert in the field of economics.

Building on this, you have the opportunity to choose your three specializations from four exciting profile areas - this means you can design your studies entirely according to your interests! And within these areas, there are even more options open to you to deepen your knowledge of the topics that fascinate you the most.

Take a look at the profile areas we offer that build on the basics:

  • Accounting & Finance
  • Management
  • Intelligence, Logistics & Operations
  • Economics and Sustainability

In each of these profile areas, you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich you on your academic path. From the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available to choose from.

It will be particularly exciting in one of the profile areas, as you will complete a seminar in which you will write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.

And if you would like to immerse yourself in the world of business, we have also prepared a Unternehmensplanspiel (business simulation game) for you. Here you can apply what you have learned in a team in the real business world and gain valuable experience.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can also spend an entire semester abroad. You can study at a partner university and incorporate your achievements there into your studies. But even if you prefer to stay here, there are many interesting modules on offer at RPTU that are perfectly suited to your business studies.

Your Bachelor's thesis will show whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of your studies. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium.

Structure

In addition to the compulsory modules/lectures, the course of study includes participation in a seminar and a business simulation game. The Bachelor's thesis then shows whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the course. A mobility window ensures that you can easily study for a semester at a foreign partner university and receive credit for your achievements. If you don't want to go abroad, you can choose modules from RPTU's range of courses that match your degree program.

Career Opportunities

Whether in purchasing, marketing or sales, where the products have to be brought to the consumer, whether as a logistician, who is responsible for the route of the goods to the customer, or in accounting, where the correct accounting of profits and losses is involved - business people work everywhere, but by no means only there. A look at the job advertisements shows that vehicle construction, mechanical engineering and the electronics industry in particular offer a wide range of prospects for graduates, in addition to traditional areas such as consulting and auditing.
