Industrial Engineering and Management

Industrial Engineering and Management - Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen (WI)

The goal of the course of studies "Industrial Engineering and Management" at the TU Kaiserslautern is to convey to students the interdependency between economic knowledge and technical progress. Due to the broad education the students should be taught the technical/economic-integrative way of thinking.

The industrial engineer serves as a figure of integration and combines economic thinking with technical know-how. This interdisciplinarity between the natural and engineering sciences on the one hand and economics and law on the other hand is one of the outstanding characteristics of industrial engineering studies. The resulting ability to "build bridges between business and technology" leads to extraordinarily good career prospects for industrial engineers. The course of study is oriented towards the constant interplay of technical progress, economic growth and social change. As one of the first five universities, Kaiserslautern has more than 25 years of experience in the education of industrial engineers and is a leader in the organization of studies and the range of courses offered. In addition to the basic subjects of mathematics, statistics and law, students are taught the basics of business administration and economics. The focus is on a generalist education in all areas of business administration, on an in-depth familiarization with an engineering discipline and an intensive teaching of key qualifications in small groups.

The Faculty of Business Studies and Economics is responsible for the content of the economics courses, the Faculty of Engineering/Computer Science is responsible for the content of the engineering courses.
