Business Administration with technical Qualification - Master

The consecutive Master's degree course "Business Administration with Technical Qualification" builds directly on the Bachelor's degree course of the same name at the TU Kaiserslautern and is especially designed for graduates of the Bachelor's degree course "Business Administration with Technical Qualification" at the TU Kaiserslautern. As a consecutive course of studies, the Master's degree in Business Administration focuses on the consolidation and expansion of the action competences acquired in the Bachelor's degree in order to enable graduates to take on hierarchically higher tasks in the company. The aim of the four-semester Master's programme is to provide graduates with the skills they need for successful professional activity in business and science in their chosen field of specialisation in a scientific and application-oriented manner.  In addition to the consolidation of economic contents, the Master's programme serves to impart business and economic methodological competence (statistical methods, econometrics, quantitative methods of business administration) and extensive specialisation in two economic modules and a technical module.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with technical qualification from the TUK or Bachelor's degree with at least 180 ECTS points without practical experience and the following previous knowledge:

60 ECTS credits from the field of business administration: proof of competence in the areas of cost and revenue accounting, financial reporting, production/logistics, marketing, investment and financing, personnel, organisation, taxes and auditing and operation research, strategic management

24 ECTS credits from the field of economics: proof of competence in the fields of microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic policy, game theory/industrial economics

17 ECTS credits from the field of mathematics/ statistics: proof of competence in the areas of analysis, linear algebra, descriptive and concluding statistics

3 ECTS credits from the integrative area: Competencies in the field of philosophy of science

36 ECTS credits from a technical field (civil engineering or electrical engineering or computer science or mechanical or process engineering)

Furthermore, proof must be provided:

proof of English from level C1

For all non-native German speakers additionally:

  •     Test German as a Foreign Language (TestDaF): TDN Level 4
  •     German language examination for university admission (DSH): Level 2

For bachelor graduates of a German-language bachelor's programme, the requirement to provide proof is waived.

Transfer from Bachelor to Master within the TUK

Wenn Sie vom Bachelor ins Masterstudium übergehen möchten, wird das Studiengangwechsel genannt. Dafür ist der Antrag innerhalb der Bewerbungsfristen beim SSC einzureichen.

If you want to change from a Bachelor's to a Master's programme, this is called a change of programme. For this purpose, the application must be submitted to the SSC within the application feadlines.

Business and economics focus areas

The main subjects can be chosen freely with few restrictions and offer the possibility to set your own main subjects.

In the Business Administration and Business Administration tQ programmes, a total of 66 ECTS credits are allocated to the three specialisations (in Business Administration tQ, a technical specialisation must be completed), each with 22 credits.

In the Industrial Engineering and Management course, only two specialisation subjects must be completed, each with a reduced scope of 13 points.

Of the 22 or 13 ECTS points, at least 4 points are allotted to a compulsory seminar belonging to the business studies focus

Business and Economics Focus Areas

The focus of this area is the design and management of information and communication systems. Among other things, nature-analogue procedures for logistics problems and the dynamic pricing of service bundles are discussed.

Controlling is a management support function that bundles information from different divisions and stakeholders and brings it to the decision-making arenas of the company. The module focuses on concepts and instruments as well as their application of controlling.

The major subject Economic Theory deals with both micro- and macroeconomic topics. This is done by means of mathematical models. The approach is therefore abstract and formal. The courses are mostly held in English.

The focus of this area is on aspects of company formation. These include, for example, the development of business ideas and legal preparations as well as start-up financing, the choice of location and corporate structure.

Financial Economics is a relatively young field of economics in which the theory of financial markets and the theory of financial institutions are integrated into economic theory. This discipline uses the techniques of general equilibrium theory and combines them with concepts from information economics and contract theory.

Central issues are the pricing and innovation activities of companies and the incentives for collusion between companies.  Microeconomic, in particular game theoretical approaches are used as a means to this end.

Logistics comprises the planning, implementation, and control of all activities and instruments that ensure optimal flows of materials, values, and information along the value chain, reaching from the procurement of information and means of production to the processing, forwarding, and distribution of goods and services and further to the disposal of waste and used goods. The “6 Rs” provide a concise description of the key tasks of logistics: Provide the right quantity, of the right objects (goods, energy, information, persons), at the right place, at the right time, in the right quality, at the right cost.

In the field of specialization, primarily scientific methods for logistics planning are covered. They are not tailored to specific companies or industries. Emphasis is on mathematical models and quantitative methods for the optimization of logistics performance.

The interdisciplinary approach to the topic is particularly noteworthy in order to adopt a holistic view.
