According to § 4 para. 1 HochSchG, every university is obliged to promote equality between women and men. This includes the direct and indirect elimination and prevention of disadvantages based on gender. The Faculty Equal Opportunity Officer has the task of supporting the faculty in executing this task (see § 4 para. 5 HochSchG). She has the right to participate in all social, organizational, and personnel measures concerning the equality of women and men, the compatibility of studies or work and family, or the protection of university members and affiliates against harassment and sexual harassment in the workplace or place of study. In order to perform these duties, she shall be informed in a timely and comprehensive manner. She may submit opinions, participate in the meetings of all committees in an advisory capacity, and file motions. Her opinions are to be attached to the documents (§ 4 para. 5 HochSchG).

An overview of the tasks and rights of the Faculty Equal Opportunity Officers can be found here.

Our tasks include in particular:

  • Participation in job filling procedures, especially appointment procedures (from the requirements analysis to the job advertisement to the formal filling of a position)
  • Participation in the development of an equal opportunities plan for the faculty as well as its regular review and processing
  • Chairing the faculty’s equal opportunity committee
  • Suggesting measures that contribute to the promotion of equality and the elimination of disadvantages for any gender within the faculty
  • Contact persons for the schoolgirls' day
  • Contact persons in cases of mobbing, stalking, sexual harassment, and sexual or violent assaults for all affected members of our faculty (contact person at the TU Kaiserslautern is Dr. Rövekamp.

Our tasks result from the Hochschulgesetz (University Act) and are aligned with the goals defined for equality in the University Development Plan.

The general guideline for the release, announcement, and filling of a professorship at the TU Kaiserslautern can be found here.

With regard to equality, particular attention should be paid to the following points:

  • The Faculty Equal Opportunity Officer has to be involved in the appointment process from the beginning.
  • Gender-neutral wording has to be used in the text of the call for applications, i.e., all genders must be addressed equally.
  • In order to promote gender awareness in appointment procedures, it is possible to invite Dr. Rövekamp (Gender Equality, Diversity, and Family Affairs Office) to the first appointment committee meeting for a short introduction on gender aspects in appointment procedures. In addition, the online self-study course Equality and Gender is available.
  • Women are to be particularly approached for an application. In addition to the use of gender-neutral language and formulations and the explicit invitation to qualified female academics to apply in the advertisement text, this also includes active recruitment. This involves personally inviting particularly suitable women to apply (motivational approach). These measures are documented.
  • The proposal for the filling of the position has to have the opinion of the Faculty Equal Opportunity Officer attached.

The following databases can help with active recruitment:

AcademiaNet
Femconsult
Database of women holding a postdoctoral academic qualification (habilitation) from an Austrian university of the Working Group for Equal Opportunities
Central European Centre for Women and Youth in Science
Femdat
Database of the Margarete von Wrangell Habilitation Program (Baden-Wuerttemberg)

In addition, alumni databases of research funding foundations can be consulted. Suitable foundations can be researched, for example, via Stiftungsindex or StipendiumPlus.

Furthermore, suitable candidates can be identified, for example, via the relevant websites of the university departments and via the distribution lists of the professional associations.

The first point of contact in cases of discrimination and sexualized violance within the framework of the informal counselling and official complaints procedure at the TU Kaiserslautern is the Gender Equality, Diversity, and Family Affairs Office.

Anyone who is affected by discrimination or observes discrimination can get in touch with the following points of contact.

The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency Rhineland-Palatinate also offers consultations. Free legal advice is available there; contact: antidiskriminierungsstelle(at)mffjiv.rlp.de.
